Music magazine title decision/ survey says?

I have decided on a title and to make the process easier I created a presentation on Prezi as it creates a thought flow, also its a bit more exiting for you guys. I have used some name ideas from Question 10 of my survey "what do you think would be a good name?"

Survey says?.........What colours do you look for in a music magazine?

For question 9 I asked "What colours do you look for in a music magazine?", this question could have more than one answer so respondents could pick various colour schemes .

I think I will use a mixture of red, blue, pink, green and black as they are really bold colours with many different shades.

Survey says?...........What do you look for in a magazine?

For question 8 I asked "what do you look for in a magazine?",  this just means what common features would you like to see, such as posters, interviews or album charts, this is basically the glue that holds the magazine together. This was an open ended question so respondents could have more than one answer.

 

Overall, the most popular response was 'album charts' this is important to my magazine genre as albums are often more important than singles or how many number 1's you have, also the album makes the band/ artist more popular, this links to the other most popular response of 'interviews' as you could interview the bands on their album. The interviews are important as they give the reader the 'inside scoop' on the band or artist in question. The second most popular answer was for 'concert guides', this is because bands/ acts of this genre often gain popularity through tours and concerts, the guide will also make the confusing task of finding bands/ artists tours easier.

 

 The least popular answer was for 'quizzes' as they often seem a bit too childish and something for 'tween' girls magazines. So. I will include a concert guide, album chart and perhaps advertise a free gift, my main article (double page spread) will be an interview. Obviously I wont actually make an album chart or concert guide, but I will display them as puffs or secondary leads on the front page. 

 

Survey says.......How often would you expect a music magazine to be released?

For question 7 I asked 'How often would you expect a music magazine to be released?', this is because I want to see what release date will suit everyone.

 Overall, most people wish for the magazine to be released monthly with 6 out of 13 responses, the second most popular answer was weekly with 4 responses. From my results I can gather that I will make my magazine monthly, as it still provides up to date storys in a easy to remember amount per year (12 isssues per year), daily magazines of this type would be impossable to produce and would suit a newspaper more, yearly magazines are more for special editions or large issues with more infomation.

 I will display the release date on the front cover and usually the 'norm' is to display on the cover  magazine covers a date which is some weeks or months in the future from the actual publishing/release date, this allows  magazines to appear "current" to readers/consumers even after they have been on sale for some time, also to make it convenient for newsstands when an unsold magazine can be removed from the stands and returned to the publisher or be destroyed

Survey says.........What is your favourite band?

For question number 6 I asked 'What is your favourite band?', this is because I wanted to
 see what people liked and to see what kind of artist/s I could replicate in my magazine.
The responses were

• Marina and the diamonds

The majority of these Bands/ artists fit into my genre of rock/alternative/indie except perhaps JLS, So I will try to base my made up on artists on the style of music these bands/ artists do.

Survey says........What would you expect to pay for a music magazine?

For question 5 I asked ' What would you expect to pay for a music magazine?' this is so I can get the correct price for my target audience, the cost of a magazine is crucial as something too expensive can put people off. For many readers, the cost is the most important part because you want to keep the price down yet still get value for money. 



From my results I can gather that most people want a magazine of around the £2+ mark, this is because they want a good price while still retaining quality. So I might price my magazine at around £2.50.
